Battery Hints & Tips
With modern day Mobility Scooters there is not a lot of involvement in looking after them.
The quality is much superior today than it once was and almost everything is sealed for life so you cannot get into the parts if you wanted to.
Your only areas of involvement are;
- Keeping your Mobility Scooter clean
- Checking your tyres do not need blown up (if pneumatic)
And correct charging of the battery.
Almost all problems experienced are due to Human error regarding incorrect charging procedures.
The following serves to help you do it properly and avoid any problems as a result while Hiring your Mobility Scooter/Powerchair
Charge the Mobility Scooters at least once a week, if in regular use. Twice a week for
Small Mobility Scooters
If you have a big day planned for tomorrow charge the Mobility Scooters
overnight before the day.
Never wait until the battery strength is at its lowest before charging. Charge at half strength.
If you have only travelled a short distance, never make the mistake of giving
a short charge, that will trick the battery into thinking it only needs a short charge & will quickly lose its strength.
Always every time give an overnight charge - plug in at bedtime, and pull out at breakfast time.
Also be sure your are charging for at least 8 hours (10 -12 hours is better). Depending on type of charger in use
await the appearance of the green light (usually) on the charger, indicating charge is complete.
Also, it is recommended to charge batteries as soon as possible once meter reads 50% charge, this helps the
life of the battery. It is advisable not to wait till reading drops into the red.
View your battery condition meter readings while you are riding the Mobility Scooters on level ground for a correct power
level remaining reading. This meter will dip quite a bit when going up an incline as it is using more power, but will return to correct reading once back on flat ground.
